本剧根据真人真事改编 一个25岁的越南裔澳大利亚年轻人因为家庭生活窘迫，在生活压力重压下，被毒贩子顶上，走上不归路，毒品走私，在新加坡被捕并且在2005年被判死刑。
本剧讲述主人公与双胞胎兄弟和母亲的感人亲情，以及一位墨尔本律师义无反顾的为其辩护，辩护时间持续将近三年，力图挽救其生命的故事。
better Man is based on the true story of Van Tuong Nguyen, a 25-year-old Vietnamese-Australian man who was arrested in Singapore, convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced with the death penalty in 2005.
The series follows the story of a young man who had a tough but loving upbringing with his twin brother and devoted mother. The story culminates in an extraordinary three-year legal battle to save the life of Nguyen, led by Julian McMahon, a Melbourne lawyer, and Lex Lasry QC, a Melbourne barrister.
