Mga Pangandoy (Aspirations) is a film that depicts a young girl's struggles in finding a job after graduating from the university. Her life is a representation of thousands of young Filipinos who after finishing school expect for a promising career in the country but because the demand for decent jobs is not that high, they have to take the risk of working in other countries where they get high paying jobs and broader opportunities ahead.
With a fast growing population and economic challenges, the Philippines is not able to provide sufficient jobs for the Filipinos. Because of this, no matter how competent its youth are, they opt to work abroad where their talents are more appreciated and they are well compensated. In effect, this causes brain drain for the Philippines contributing to lesser chances of an improved economy. The film was an entry to the International Labor Organization’s video contest on Decent Work for Youth and made it to the top 15 finalist.
