On May 25, 2008, NASA's Phoenix Lander will enter the Martian atmosphere and land on its polar ice-cap in the last phase of a historic mission to investigate Mars' past by digging down into the soil and ice - something that has never been done before. Scientists hope that the mission will reveal a great deal about Mars' geological history, but the biggest question they seek to answer: was Mars ever a watery world?
